Leuven is a lively university city and home to KU Leuven. Whether you are visiting for sightseeing, an event or an appointment — find all the information about parking in Leuven here: parking zones, car parks, P+R and payment methods.
Via SparkSpot you can reserve a private parking spot near your destination in Leuven in advance. Choose a spot, pay online and park without stress — often cheaper than the public car parks.
Leuven uses two regulated on-street parking zones: LEU1 inside and on the ring road, LEU3 outside the ring. The tariff is identical in both zones, but it is a PROGRESSIVE tariff — the longer you park, the more expensive each additional hour. You pay per started 15 minutes.
| Zone | Paid hours | Location |
|---|---|---|
| LEU1 | Monday – Saturday, 09:00 – 21:00 | Inside and on the ring road R23 (centre) |
| LEU3 | Monday – Saturday, 09:00 – 19:00 | Outside the ring (residential areas) |
| Blue zone | No fixed hours — free with parking disc (max 2 hours) | Specific residential streets |
| Duration | Additional rate | Total cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1st hour | € 2.50 | € 2.50 |
| 2nd hour | + € 3.40 | € 5.90 |
| 3rd hour | + € 4.50 | € 10.40 |
| 4th hour | + € 5.00 | € 15.40 |
| 5th hour | + € 5.00 | € 20.40 |
Anyone staying longer than 2 hours in the centre should pick an underground car park. Because the on-street tariff is progressive, a car park is often cheaper from 3 hours onwards. Below the two largest public garages with official rates from leuven.be (May 2026).
| Car park | Address | 1st hour | Max (24h) | Capacity & info |

| Ladeuze | Mgr. Ladeuzeplein 20, 3000 Leuven | € 3.30 | € 23.60 | 750 spaces, 24/7, lift, wide bays |
| Heilig Hart | Naamsestraat 102, 3000 Leuven | € 2.75 | € 23.00 | 285 spaces, 22 EV charge points, 24/7, lift |
| Duration | Price |
|---|---|
| Up to 1 hour | € 3.30 |
| Up to 2 hours | € 6.80 |
| Up to 3 hours | € 10.20 |
| Maximum 24h | € 23.60 |
| Duration | Price |
|---|---|

| Up to 2 hours | € 5.50 |
| Up to 4 hours | € 11.00 |
| Up to 8 hours | € 22.00 |
| Maximum 24h | € 23.00 |

For free parking, one option stands out: Park & Ride Bodart. This open-air city-edge parking sits on Koning Boudewijnlaan, a few minutes from the centre, and is a “Hoppinpunt” — a mobility hub where you can switch easily to De Lijn bus, shared bike or walk into the centre.
Leuven is a lively university town with 60,000+ KU Leuven students and many hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Specific events significantly increase parking demand. Here are the main destinations with practical parking tips.
Leuven’s premier culinary event — restaurants and bars set up stalls on the Grote Markt and Oude Markt. Sunday parking is free anyway (Sunday regime), but city-centre car parks fill early. Tip: arrive before 11:00 OR park at P+R Bodart and take the shuttle bus.
One of Flanders’ biggest free city festivals, on Ladeuzeplein, Oude Markt and surrounding streets. Centre-area traffic is closed off. Park at P+R Bodart or a city-edge parking outside the ring; shuttle bus and walking handle the rest.
A whole summer of small and large events across town. Daily parking demand is higher than normal but manageable — pick the centre car parks (Ladeuze, Heilig Hart) or P+R Bodart.
On Mgr. Ladeuzeplein and throughout the historic centre. Open daily 11:00–22:00, Thursday to Saturday until 23:00. Parking Ladeuze is LITERALLY underneath the market — but fills up extremely fast. Alternatives: Parking Heilig Hart or P+R Bodart.
KU Leuven has locations spread throughout Leuven. For a visit to the central campus (University Library, Hooglandcollege, Ladeuze): Parking Ladeuze. For the medical campus (Gasthuisberg / UZ Leuven): dedicated parking on the campus itself. For specific faculty buildings: Parking Heilig Hart or blue zones around Naamsestraat.
Leuven sits between Brussels and the Limburg region, ideal as a stopover or day trip. Eurostar/ICE connections via Brussels-Midi reach Leuven Station in 25 minutes; from the station you walk to the centre in 10 minutes. By car: 25 minutes from Brussels via the E40, 35 minutes from Antwerp via the E314. Conference visitors at KU Leuven can pre-book a SparkSpot near their venue to skip the centre traffic entirely.
In Leuven you pay for on-street parking three main ways: via a mobile app, by SMS to 4411, or at a street meter. The City of Leuven works with FIVE approved parking apps — pick the one you already use.
The City of Leuven accepts the following parking apps:
How it works (similar across apps):
App fees: each transaction includes a transaction cost on top of the parking rate. With 4411 this is €0.45 per parking session (since June 2022). Other apps have their own pricing — check before registering.
Tip: every app offers a FREE 15-minute parking session — useful for a quick errand without buying a ticket.
No smartphone or internet? Send an SMS to the number 4411 with the zone and your licence plate. The fee is €0.15 per SMS. Only works with a Belgian mobile number.
The classic method. Find the nearest meter, pick your zone, pay with bank card, and place the ticket visible behind your windshield. No extra service fee.
Leuven has NO Low Emission Zone. All vehicles — diesel, petrol, electric — are welcome in all zones regardless of Euro standard. LEZ rules apply in Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels, but not in Leuven.
Parking in Leuven can be completely free — if you know when and where. Below are the three free options.
In both zone LEU1 (inside and on the ring) and LEU3 (outside the ring), on-street parking is FREE on:
No ticket, no SMS, no app required. The weekend as a whole is not free — Saturdays you still pay 09:00–21:00 in LEU1 and 09:00–19:00 in LEU3.
Blue zones are scattered across Leuven, mainly in residential areas just outside the commercial centre. There you park free with a blue parking disc for a maximum of 2 hours. Ideal for a quick errand, restaurant visit or delivery.
For a full day of free parking, combine P+R Bodart with the free shuttle bus to the centre. See section 6.4 for full details.
Holders of a valid European disability parking permit may use designated accessible parking spaces throughout Leuven. P+R Bodart (165 spaces) is explicitly accessible for visitors with reduced mobility. Car parks Ladeuze and Heilig Hart both have lifts and wide bays. Always display your badge clearly and consult leuven.be for current information.
A visit to Leuven combines history, beer culture and a modern university town in one compact centre. From your parking spot you walk to every highlight in 15 minutes or less.
The late-Gothic Town Hall (1448–1469) carries 236 statues in total — 149 on the façades and 87 in the towers, sculpted between 1849 and 1913. The figures depict Leuven scholars, artists and historic figures, unique in Europe. Across the square stands St. Peter’s Church (15th century), known for The Last Supper by Dieric Bouts. Both are 5 minutes from Parking Ladeuze.
The University Library on Mgr. Ladeuzeplein houses the world’s most famous carillon tower. KU Leuven (founded 1425) is the oldest still-operating Catholic university in the world. For visits to the central campus, park at Ladeuze.
A square ringed with bars and restaurants — the heart of Leuven’s nightlife. On summer evenings the square turns into one big open-air café. Parking Heilig Hart (5 min walk) or Parking Ladeuze (7 min) are the natural picks.
The Grand Beguinage of Leuven (UNESCO since 1998) is a mini-town of 13 hectares with 100+ houses along narrow canals. Perfect for a quiet walk. From Parking Heilig Hart it’s 12 minutes on foot.
The Artois brewery has operated since 1717, on the site of the older Den Hoorn brewery (possibly dating back to the 14th century). The pilsner “Stella Artois” was first brewed in 1926, originally as a Christmas beer. The brewery sits in the north of town with tours by reservation. The adjacent Vaartkom is a trendy district with restaurants, breweries and creative spaces. Park free on-street in LEU3 in the evening, or use P+R Bodart.
KU Leuven hosts thousands of Erasmus students and academics each year. The university’s central campus, the medical campus (UZ Leuven / Gasthuisberg) and the engineering campus (Heverlee) are spread across town. From Brussels-Midi the train to Leuven Station takes 25 minutes; from there it’s 10 minutes on foot to the centre. By car: 25 minutes from Brussels via E40, 35 minutes from Antwerp via E314.

No. Leuven has NO LEZ. All vehicles — diesel, petrol, electric — are welcome in all zones regardless of Euro standard. LEZ rules apply in Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels, but not in Leuven.
The City of Leuven accepts five approved apps: 4411, Yellowbrick, Seety, EasyPark and Amano. With 4411 (the most popular) you pay a €0.45 transaction cost per parking session on top of the parking rate. SMS to 4411: €0.15 per SMS. Tip: every app offers a free 15-minute parking session — useful for a quick errand.
During major events, centre car parks fill up fast. The best free option: P+R Bodart (Koning Boudewijnlaan, 165 spaces, free with disc max 10h, Hoppinpunt for transfer to De Lijn bus or shared bike). On Sundays on-street parking is free everywhere (Hapje Tapje always falls on the first Sunday of August). For the Christmas Market and Marktrock: arrive early or use P+R Bodart.
